Well, I do agree that if we interpret the rule as written to have an
unlimited maximum, then at least the first person to take advantage of
that interpretation should be allowed to benefit from it.

I disagree with the interpretation itself, too, but I'd have been
willing to give the Priest the call when the rules as written are
truly ambiguous; I can't say that his reading of "maximum" is any more
consistent or inconsistent with game custom than mine since it's never
come up before.
