I'm not sure about "activating", but there were arguably some cases where the intended effect of the other words was unclear. No such ambiguity exists here; if synonyms are allowed at all, then "deregister" is clearly synonymous with "forfeit". (I must remember next nweek to propose replacing Panic Buttons with Mental States; I think my previous attempt was part of a Refresh Proposal that didn't get selected.)
