I dump both lists into one folder, and typically purge every three nweeks
or so. Right now, 1186 messages (my numbers are skewed because I also get
the spam-o-grams -- whenever someone that's not subscribed to one of the
lists tries to post, I get a notice asking me to approve/reject the
posting).

I actually depend on Google and the list archives for my backups. Frees up
disk space and all. :-)
