RE: spoon-discuss: Re: spoon-business: Proposal

Good suggestion. I'd actually been thinking along the same lines, but didn't have time to work out all the language for instantiating different betting games and all before the end of the nweek. Now that I have the time on my hands, the un-sushified version in a few ndays will be able to include that feature.

The way I was thinking of it, the bookie would basically work one of two ways:

1) Games such as Oscar betting pool, which are group games defined by a proposal and "administered" by the bookie. These games would generally award winnings from the pool of points submitted by players, plus an additional amount determined as a percentage of the total sum of all points possessed by active players at the start of the game. (I'm thinking 8% for one-winner games, 20% for pool-type games where the winnings are shared among multiple winners).

2) Individual betting arrangements between players, in which a player can have the bookie offer a specific bet and odds established by the player, and other players may take that bet. In these games, the bookie would earn a small commission on each bet.

Any further suggestions? If so, send them my way. I'll be tinkering with this for the next few ndays.
