Re: [eia] evasion attempt off Naples |
While I see what you guys are saying as far as the letter of the rules says, I find it _extremely_ silly that there is no limit to the number of interceptions a defending stack can attempt before combat begins. For example, a stack of 30 ships is attacked by, say, 30 fleets with 10 ships each. This interpretation makes it possible for the defending stack to intercept each and every attacking fleet separately as it enters the area. Not only is this silly in that it gives 30 ships a reasonable chance to defeat 300 ships, but also, at the rate of one interception combat (or manuevering to intercept) per day, this part of the naval phase would take up an entire month's game time, with nothing left for naval combat or the land phase. Or, if the attacking fleets are supposed to be showing up simultaneously or almost simultaneously, how could there be even a chance that every fleet could be intercepted ? Having said all this, I realize that it would just waste everybody's time to suggest changing the rule at this point. I want the game to keep moving just as much as anyone, so I will work with the silly rule as written. I don't mean to or want to start a long argument. But before we can start sending out the Coalition's naval orders, I need to know if Mike's interpretation about who can participate in an interception combat is agreed to by everyone; that is, if attacking fleets have already entered the defender's sea area, and another attacking fleet enters and is intercepted, can/do the phasing fleets already in the area join in the battle against the interceptors ? -JJY > I would say that since 6.2.2 says that all the fleets of a major > power, or of major powers under combined movement, are considered one stack > when in the same area, that an interception of an arriving fleet would also > allow already present fleets to fight so long as they meet the who may fight > rules in 6.3.1.
