Wonko asked:How would people feel about a 'play field' - cards would be either in the Deck, in people's hands, or 'On the Field'. Then cards like Syn would be put on the field instead of declaring that they don't get put anywhere for a while; then also, permanent cards could be created. The field would have to be divided into several areas: Syn needs a separate place for each player. For the sake of frivolity we could call it eir foot.
I was just thinking Syn would be sitting open on the field, and cards on the field could by owned by various players. Then Syn would read "When you play Syn, put it on the field. If this card has been on the field for more than an nweek, it is discarded." and Ack would read "Choose a Syn card on the field. That card is discarded, and both you and the player who played that Syn card gain 5 points. Until the end...<rest of Ack>"
I was thinking of proposing a card that gave you an extra hand (it goes into your right hand, and your other cards remain in your left hand). But it would have messed up too many other cards for too little gain.
We could give certain players 'cribs', like in Cribbage - a separate hand made up of cards donated by the other players.
Say... what if we also gave cards other playing-card-like data, say based on their serial numbers? Thus, a card might have a suit determined by its serial number div 30, and a number equal to it serial mod 30, etc.
Then some cards might change a card's ordinal number... {{ __Mistaken Identity__Image: A Four of Clubs, leaning against a glass of water next to a small pool. The Four's reflection in the pool is the 7 of Diamonds. Body: Choose two cards in any player's hand. The serial numbers of those cards are swapped.
}} Or alter the Suit or Number... {{ __Wandering Ace__Image: Two cards sit on a table, one the Ace of Spades, the other the 6 of Hearts. The large Spade in the middle of the Ace is peeling off, revealing some Diamonds underneath it, and one of the Ace symbols from the corner of the Ace has popped off entirely and is settling down over the 6 in the corner of the 6 of Hearts. Body: This card is treated as if its suit were Spades and its number were Ace. When you play this card, choose any card in a player's hand. This card becomes a copy of that card, and that card becomes a copy of Wandering Ace.
}} Or do things with them... {{ __Flush!__ Image: A stack of cards, being dropped into a toilet.Body: When you play Flush!, you may choose to name a player and discard exactly 4 cards of any one suit from your hand, if you have 4 such cards. If you choose to do so, that player discards eir hand.
}}We'd need more interesting ranks and suits, though.... "Ha! The Neurosurgeon of Gnomes trumps your pi of Rodents! I win!"
