What is commonly recognized in the world as a nation is more than just a hunk of territory, more than just a bunch of people, more than a combination of the two, and even more than all of those plus whatever document said people choose to wave around. It takes recognition by the rest of the world. Otherwise there's nothing that prevents a discussion between recognized world leaders along the lines of, "Hey, is that your chunk of land with people on it over there?" "Um...it is now." So offhand I'd say that until the rest of the world pipes up and agrees with our declaration of sovereignty we don't have a problem with being sovereign. And if all their laws are null and void, they won't have an official means of recognizing us any time soon. (They'll be too busy reinventing their tax systems.)
