Re: [s-b] Era 5 Consultation 1 |
I answer this Consultation YES. Reasoning { The contradiction pointed out by the Supplicant does not exist. While all Players are Resident in (0,0), the noun "Resident" is not defined in the Rules, and thus must be defined implicitly, as something of which there is never more than 3 on a square. Incidentally, "Resident Square", "Resident on a Square", and "Resident to a Square" are similarly undefined. Rule 5E48, with sections containing these terms removed, is as follows: { The Ministry of Grid is a Ministry responsible for keeping track of the Colours of Squares on the Grid, and the Players Resident in them. The Grid consists of an infinite amount of Squares on a 2D board, from (-inf,-inf) to (inf, inf). Squares are identified by their (x,y) positions. Colours (aka Colors) are a type of Object, consisting of an RGB colour. Squares optionally have a Colour. Squares without a colour are Uncoloured. All Players are either Resident in exactly one Square, or Unsquared. Initially, all Players are Resident in the Square (0,0). Players can "move" from a square one place up, down, left or right from their current Square as a Game Action. They then become Resident in that Square. Prisoners and the Dead cannot move. A Player cannot move more than 5 Squares per nday, and cannot move when the Clock is Off. All Squares have a set of Laws. The Laws for a Colour can also define methods for changing the Colour of Squares of that Colour, and also specify methods for causing the Colour to take Game Actions. The Laws of a Colour must specify a Tracker for that Colour. Laws without such a specification, if not fixed within a Jiffy, cease to become the Laws of the relevant Colour and they revert back to the default ones. This restriction does not apply to the initial Laws. A Player can be punished via Consultation for violating Laws unless the Laws define their own punishment for the violation. The Rules take precedence over all Laws. The Laws for Squares of any Colour apart from Uncoloured are initially as follows: with $COLOUR replaced with the relevant Colour. The Laws for Uncoloured Squares are as follows: } Note also that "their current Square" is referenced in the description of movement; Squares are not defined as being in the possession of Players, but I shall assume a Player's Square to be the Square in which he is Resident. Furthermore, there is "a square" mentioned earlier in the sentence. The Square in which a Player becomes Resident after moving must be one of these; I suggest that it be "a square", because this allows the reading that a Player may (if Resident in (4,7)), move from (4,8) and become Resident in (4,8), which appears to be closer to the intent of the author than one in which moving does not change the Square in which one is Resident. } Codae ________________________________ From: Jay Campbell <bnomic@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: B Nomic - Business <spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 3, 2008 5:44:49 PM Subject: [s-b] Era 5 Consultation 1 I submit this Consultation naming ehird as the Unbeliever { Question: Did Era 5 start? "Initially, all Players are Resident in the Square (0,0)." "A Square can never have more than 3 Residents. A Game Action causing a Square to have more is ineffective." The game action that caused Square (0,0) to have more than 3 Residents was Rule 0, "9. All changes listed in the selected Refresh Proposal occur, implemented by the Emergency Coordinator as needed." Specifically, it was enacting the line "Replace all Rules with..." after all macks were destroyed. According to the current rules, the action that caused them to become the current rules was "ineffective." } I encourage an Answer at least as interesting as Paradox. j _______________________________________________ spoon-business mailing list spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/spoon-business _______________________________________________ spoon-business mailing list spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/spoon-business
