Re: spoon-business: Request to be designated as a Player

Note: this email contains FOUR separate proposals.

----------------------------------------------------

{BEGIN PROPOSAL A}
{TITLE: Currency}

There shall exist game entities known as "Nomic Dollars." The term Nomic Dollars is abbreviated as $N. Nomic Dollars may be assigned to other game entities. Nomic Dollars may only be created or destroyed by means explicitly stated in the rules of the game.

There shall be a game entity known as the Bank. No other game entity may be named "Bank" or "the Bank."

There shall exist a Dimension known as a Bank Account. The sole purpose of a Bank Account is to record the number of $N assigned to a game entity.

Each Player shall have a single Bank Account associated with that Player. No Player may have more than one Bank Account.

The Bank itself shall also have a single Bank Account, known as the Vault. No Player or other game entity may be named "Vault" or "the Vault." The Vault records the total number of $N that are not assigned to any other Bank Accounts.

Nomic Dollars may only be transferred between Bank Accounts by means explicitly stated in the rules of the game.

The Administrator will be responsible for accurately tracking the number of $N assigned to Bank Accounts.

Upon passage of this proposal, 100,000 $N will be created and assigned to the Vault, at which time this sentence will delete itself from the ruleset. [[just for the sake of cleaning up the text]]

{END PROPOSAL A}

----------------------------------------------------

{BEGIN PROPOSAL B}
{TITLE: Proposal Awards}

Upon the successful passage of a Proposal, a certain amount of $N will be transferred from the Vault to the Bank Account of the Player who proposed the successful Proposal. The amount transferred will be determined by a dice roll of 5d20. If the amount to be transferred exceeds the total amount in the Vault, then the Player will receive all the remaining $N in the Vault or zero $N if the Vault contains zero $N. (E.g. if the dice roll came up as a total of 87, then 87 $N would be transferred from the Vault to the Player's Bank Account. However, if the dice roll came up as a total of 87 and the Vault only contained 45 $N, then 45 $N would be transferred from the Vault to the Player's Bank Account.)

The Proposal Award will be deemed complete when the Administrator acknowledges that e has recorded the appropriate changes to the Vault and the Player's Bank Account resulting from the transfer of $N between the accounts.

{END PROPOSAL}

{BEGIN PROPOSAL C}
{TITLE: Sharing the Wealth}

PLAYER TRANSFER: Nomic Dollars may be transferred from the Bank Account of one Player (known as the Donor) to the Bank Account of another Player (known as the Recepient). To initiate the transfer the Donor must request, in a Public Forum, the transfer a specific number of $N (up to the maximum amount of $N in the Donor's Bank Account and no more than that) from eir Bank Account to the Bank Account of the Recipient.

The Player Transfer will be deemed complete when the Administrator acknowledges that e has recorded the appropriate changes to the Donor's and Recipient's Bank Accounts resulting from the transfer of $N between the accounts.

{END PROPOSAL BC

----------------------------------------------------

{BEGIN PROPOSAL D}
{TITLE: Victory By Monopoly}

If at any time any Player has all of the $N in circulation in eir Bank Account, that Player shall be given the title of "Grand Monopolist" and immediately awarded a number of points as calculated by the following formula: (1000-x) where x is the Player's current score.

{END PROPOSAL D}

Rationale for these proposals:

Money is fun and has all kinds of nifty uses! :-)

Looking through the archives, I see there was a currency proposal a few weeks ago. Some advantages to this set of proposals:

* Under my first proposal, there is a finite amount of currency in circulation. The rule would leave open the possibility of new rules to create ways of adding more currency to the economy. Beware of inflation, though!

* Via the second and third proposal, there are two mechanisms for transfer of $N. The rule would leave open the possibility of other ways of transferring currency.

* In the last proposal, a "value" (in game terms) is assigned to the currency in that if a Player can find a way to grab all of the Nomic Dollars in circulation they can win the game. Given the current methods of transferring $N, this is an unlikely requirement, although it provides incentive for more creative legislation around the currency concept! Of course, this assumes the points needed to win doesn't change... ;-)

I've split this into three proposals to make it easier to pass. E.g., the second and third are meaningless without the first, but you could pass A & B without having to pass C.

I think these are good rules because they provide the foundation for opening the game up in new and interesting ways by encouraging the generation of more legislation related to this Nomic currencies.
