Thus spake Tom Plagge: > > Be sure you have X compression turned on. That should save you a lot of > > bytes traveling back and forth. > > How do you do this? Oops, what I was thinking of is not X protocol compression, but rather ssh stream compression. I think it's the -C option for ssh. As for X protocol compression, you can check whether your X server has it with xdpyinfo, and grep it's output for "LBX". And there's some stuff you can do to get it working: http://studenthelp.itee.uq.edu.au/remote/lbx.html http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LBX.html I've never tried this, so I have no idea how well it works. > > Even then, however, you might be facing too much overhead created by all > > that indirection. It's not terribly useful when it's not on a LAN with my other boxen. When I move in May, I'll haul it to my new place if there's space, and use it as a spare terminal. As for the SGI, I really really don't need another computer. It would be fun to play with the Indigo, but there are dozens of other fun things queued up ahead of your Indigo right now. -- J. _______________________________________________ hosers-talk mailing list hosers-talk@xxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/hosers-talk
