Thus spake "J.J. Young": > In practical terms, Portugal is not threatened by Russia because of where > Russia's forces happen to be. But in theory, since Portugal is now > Turkish-controlled and Russia is at war with Turkey, Russia now has war > access into Portuguese territory, just as Great Britain had access into > Sweden when Prussia declared war on it and Sweden became French-controlled. > > So in this theoretical sense, Portugal is being threatened by Russia. Part of what I'm getting at is that it's also wierd that a Spanish declaration of war on Portugal would put Russia at war with Portugal becuase the Turks ended up with control. In the actual world, if Turkey were supplying advisors or even sent corps to help Portugal defend itself against a Russian ally, that wouldn't automatically put Russia and Portugal at war. Gaining control of a neutral minor, in game terms, however, essentially converts that minor into a province of the major power with its own corps and defense budget. _______________________________________________ eia mailing list eia@xxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/eia
