[ALACPP] Some Decisions |
The following were decided by group consensus last night: 1. The next book for study will be Herb Sutter's _Exceptional C++_. Here's an ungodly long Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201615622/qid=1059162822/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-6592137-8943225?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 2. Weekly lunch meetings will be moved from Thursdays to Tuesdays. 3. The reading for next Tuesday will be the 1st problem in _Exceptional C++_. This book should be less dry and have an approach similar to Scott Meyers' _Effective C++_ books, covering a wide range of topics. We're hoping to cover several problems a week, so it should hopefully lead to more invigorating discussion, and allow casual readers to follow along as well. A number of the problems deal with exception safety, which is an important topic in the world of C++. In addition, source code for the event handler class is available on the web site. The code's a little rough, but I'm working on it. At some point I hope to get it transitioned to Boost::thread.
