Re: [s-d] [s-b] Proposal/RFC: The Code of Life |
First of all--it should be "two-character-strings," not "two character strings." Second, the dice server results return A, B, G, and C, instead of A, T, G, and C. Third, to get new DNA, maybe we should stick in that Players-are-not-Players-until-recognition-by-the-Registrar clause, and have him draw up the genetics for new Players. Alternatively, all new Players could start with the AA genome. Interesting proposal! As Artisan, I might make a blueprint for something based on genetics (which, of course, will be useless until/unless this proposal passes.). Codae ----- Original Message ---- From: Jamie Dallaire <bad.leprechaun@xxxxxxxxx> To: B Nomic - business <spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2007 9:57:38 PM Subject: [s-b] Proposal/RFC: The Code of Life I'd like some comments on the proposal below, especially with regard to how to manage new players getting DNA. The long and short of the idea is that everyone has a DNA attribute which can be changed though strategic mutation at a slow rate. Any two players with identical DNA are Twins, and Twins may not directly cause each other to lose HP, vote against each other's proposals, object to each other's actions, submit or revise proposals listing conflicts with each other's proposals, or usurp each other's ministries. I submit the following proposal, entitled "The Code of Life": {{ Create a *new rule* that reads: { There is an Attribute "DNA" with a Scope of all Players, a Range of 2 character strings composed entirely of the uppercase letters A, T, G, and C, and a Default Value of AA. Once per nweek, as a Game Action, a Player may Mutate, changing only one of the characters that forms his DNA but leaving both characters in the same order. Players with identical DNA are said to be Twins. In no case shall a Player be considered to be his own Twin. } Upon adoption of this proposal, the Ministry of Society is given the obligation to send an email to nomic.net's Dice Server ( dice@xxxxxxxxx), with the following body of text (with appropriate values replacing the square brackets and text within): { #P spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx #S 4 #D 1 #R [an integer equal to two times the number of Players registered at the time the email is sent] #L 2 #C 1=A, 2=B, 3=G, 4=C #C [list of all current players, by name, separated by commas] #T B Nomic DNA Assignment } /*See http://www.nomic.net/~dice/ for Dice Server instructions*/ The response to the above email, automatically delivered by the Dice Server to the Public Forum, constitutes a Game Document bestowing each Player his initial DNA. The first line of dice rolls represents, in order from left to right, the first and second characters of the DNA of the first Player listed (from the left). Dice rolls are converted to letters as follows: 1 becomes A, 2 becomes B, 3 becomes G, 4 becomes C. The second line represents, in the same manner, the DNA of the second Player listed, and such a pattern is followed till the nth line and the nth Player. If the number of dice roll lines and the number of Players listed do not coincide, because of Ministry error or otherwise, this Game Document is destroyed and a new email is submitted such that a new Game Document is received and treated as if it were the first such document received for the purpose of DNA Assignation. Assignation of initial DNA does not constitute a mutation. In Rule 2-2, under the heading "Voting", insert the following paragraph between the 5th and 6th paragraphs: { A Registered Voter may not submit a Vote of AGAINST on a Proposal whose Author is currently his Twin. } In Rule 2-2, under the heading "Submission and Revision", append the following sentence to the first paragraph: { He may not specify a Conflict with a Proposal whose Author is currently his Twin. } In Rule 2-5, under the heading "Overriding Consultations", add the following sentence between the second and third sentences of the first paragraph: { A Player may not Claim an answer submitted by a Priest who is currently his Twin to be Inconsistent. } In Rule 2-8, append the following sentence to the fourth paragraph: { Neither may a Player object to an action that another Player who is currently his Twin attempted to perform. } In Rule 2-11, add the following paragraph: { A Player may not perform any action that directly causes the Hit Points of another Player who is currently his Twin to be reduced. } In Rule 6-4, amend the first sentence to read: { A Player may, as a Game Action and without 2 objections in 2 rdays, Usurp a non-Vacant Ministry, unless the current Minister is also currently his Twin. } }} Billy Pilgrim _______________________________________________ spoon-business mailing list spoon-business@xxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/spoon-business _______________________________________________ spoon-discuss mailing list spoon-discuss@xxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/spoon-discuss
