Re: [s-d] New Player - Primo |
I was responsible for ANPU, actually. Way back when I was younger, and crazier too, I thought it would be a fun idea to try and make a robotic nomic player. The plan was to combine my meager knowledge of Telnet, SMTP, and Q-Basic in some sort of Unholy Trinity and have it automatically read messages and make responses to them. Then I would just update it whenever the ruleset changed. The plan eventually failed due to laziness, and the fact that anyone who actually has the skills to manually use SMTP with Telnet doesn't use Q-Basic. Still, it might be an interesting idea for the future, maybe we could make it some sort of Pseudo-Player Golem thing. And write it in something other than Q-Basic. Regarding the whole turing test problem, couldn't we just say "A External Force may become a Player if no one objects"? That worked for Cimonomic, although it lead to a incorrect (and humorous) interpetation of the ruleset where any action could be canceled by someone objecting to it. Also, it can prevent mass invasion/player flooding. Of course, that's like closing the stable door after everyone watched the horse walk out. And as for the whole Agorian Invasion, it looks like the easiest way to get B Nomic back on track after a lull in activity is to start a rules arguement. Maybe would should leave a few dubious but exploitable loopholes in the ruleset so that whenever things are getting boring, someone can break things and start the party all over again. --DQT ____________________________________________________________________________________ The fish are biting.
