One wonders if the justice system could use some rewriting, to prevent 
things like bd's error in the first place...

One particularly well developed justice system we could consider as a 
basis is the agoran one... of course, they've got 41 rules devoted to 
it... that might be a bit much... but they cover a lot of the problems 
we have...
