From: "Glotmorf" <glotmorf@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>Talking of having separate lists for Products (objects that can be produced by some Technology) and Technologies (methods for producing Products) made me wonder about the possibility of dramatically changing the ruleset without actually changing the rules...How about the "ruleset" consists of multiple groupings of items, the primary one of course being the rules, but others including Objects (anything manipulable, defined with the methods of creation, destruction, resurrection, etc.), or perhaps categories of objects such as Gremlins, Gnomes, Grid Items, etc. Each object would contain the rules that apply specifically to it. In the main body of rules there would then be catchall rules that would say such-and-such category of objects has such-and-such properties in common, and that, unless specified in the object, they have a collective chutzpah of such-and-such.This would let us easily see what objects, or what objects of a given category, are in existence quickly and easily. It would allow us to add or remove objects without rewriting one or more rules. Rules would become significantly smaller. Many less-is-mores would be unnecessary. And there would be joy and peace throughout the land.It would begin by the creation of lists, then the moving of objects into them. This could be done by proposals. And it wouldn't involve the total rewriting of the ruleset. What's the sound of one Orc's jaw dropping? Glotmorf
I actually *was* doing this for a while. I was having Classes define all the different kinds of objects, and parts of the Classes were rules about the Objects that were members of that class, and having a seperate list (like the LOGAS) that held all the classes.
The problem is that too many rules would not be able to fit in the Classes, and you would then end up having to look in at least 2 different places for rules about a particular kind of Object. In addition, it seemed like far too much structure for BNomic, which, as you said, is changing. The rules how they are now at least are cohesive, if not coherent.
As for "And it wouldn't involve the total rewriting of the ruleset." Are you nuts?
Oh, and for the record, hangovers suck. Orc In A Spacesuit has a bad hangover _________________________________________________________________MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
