-Well, at first I thought you'd gone crazy, but the "Trebor" thing convinced me you're... well, you're still crazy, but at least you know about Wizardry. What happens if you engrave "Werdna?" Oh, and even with the 1 in 20 chance, that "Elbereth" thing is too powerful. Maybe if it were a 1 in 4 or 5 chance?-{{ __Revenge of the Mad Overlord!__ Enact the following new rule: {{ __Engravings__ {*Grid, 2*} A. Definitions An engraving is a text string associated with a grid location. A grid location may have no more than one engraving. A.1 Conditions for Engraving Engravings are player creatable and alterable in the public forum, provided that the following conditions are met: The location must not be of substance mud or fire. It must not contain a brook. It must not be wet. The player doing the engraving must be carrying a non-dull athame, and must occupy the grid location which is to be engraved, or which contains the engraving to be alterable. The player doing the engraving must not be a Toad. A.2 The effects upon an Athame Upon creation or alteration of an engraving one non-dull athame carried by the engraver (chosen by the Administrator) has a 1 in 4 chance (determined by the Administrator) of receiving the attribute "dull". A.3 Damage to Engravings An engraving may be smudged, which causes a single randomly chosen character of the engraving to be replaced with white space. An engraving may also be erased, which destroys the engraving. A player occupying the same location as an engraving may smudge or erase it at will, even if e does not have an athame. Certain events may also cause engravings to be smudged or erased. A.3.1 Unlikely Smudging The following events have a 1 in 4 chance (determined by the Administrator) of, if they occur in a location with an engraving, of smudging out a random letter in an engraving. A smudged out letter is replaced with white space. Any engraving completely replaced by white space is deleted: Movement of a player into or out of the location. Picking up or dropping something. Catching something or throwing something. Squeezing a gnome. The consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The arrival of the Football. A.3.2 Likely Smudging The following events will always alter an engraving by smudging out a random letter if they occur at the location of the engraving: Luigi Breaking a Limb of a player who occupies the location. A player at the location pays the Witch Gremlin to curse. Use of the Big Stick or a Pinball Gun. A.3.3 Unlikely Erasing The following events have a 1 in 2 chance (determined by the Administrator) of completely erasing an engraving if they occur: The location becoming wet or frozen. The arrival of an impassable object. A.3.4 Likely Erasing The following events will completely erase an engraving if they occur at the location of the engraving: A change of substance. B. Elbereth If a player is occupying a grid location with an engraving that contains the word "Elbereth" the following things apply: E may not be cursed by the Witch Gremlin. The Witch Gremlin may be paid to curse em but no curse will be given. Is protected from receiving any new Broken Limb, if the Administrator rolls 2 or less on 1d3. Eir proposals may not be chosen by Robin for point redistribution. E can not be chosen to be burnt by Bruce. E does not suffer the point penalty for being hit by a thrown object. A Big Rock cannot be placed at eir location E may not be Whacked with the Big Stick E may not be fired at with a Pinball Gun. Bomb gnomes may not be thrown at em or eir location. E may not be tackled. B.1 Oops! A player attempting to engrave "Elbereth" or alter an engraving to read "Elbereth" has a 1 in 20 chance (determined by the Administrator) of accidentally engraving "Trebor" instead. When this happens e receives the attribute "Eternally Cursed by the Mad Overlord" and becomes a toad for two nweeks. }} add the following subsection to rule 301 {{ F.5 Athames: There exist passable, throwable, carryable MOs called Athames. At the beginning of each nweek, if there are fewer athames than 2/3 the number of Off Leave players, an Athame is placed on a random legal Grid Square. A player who is hit by a thrown athame loses an additional 1d5 points to the player who threw it, unless the athame has the attribute "dull". A dull athame may be sharpened by squeezing a water gnome and an earth gnome over it in the same nday. This removes the dull attribute. If a player in posession of an athame is at a location occupied by a Garbage can e may throw out the athame. This destroys the athame. [[Athames are useful for engraving things]] }} }} Dan Waldron
