RE: spoon-discuss: Is Nomic one syllable? |
Any way you slice it, it's a two syllable word. The stress also falls on the first syllable, whether you pronounce it with a short 'o' or a long 'o'. So, as far as the haiku bonus is concerned, the pronunciation doesn't matter, unless you're planning to read your haiku rule proposal aloud at a coffeehouse open mike night. :) As for the pronunciation of the word, see http://www.nomic.net/FAQ.html#a3 for discussion of the debated pronunciations, and Suber's own take on the matter. --Scoff! > -----Original Message----- > From: Antonio [mailto:zagarna@xxxxxxxxx] > Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2002 10:21 AM > To: spoon-discuss@xxxxxxxxx > Subject: spoon-discuss: Is Nomic one syllable? > > > Now that we have the haiku bonus I need to know this: > how do you pronounce nomic? > is it nomic as in echo-NOMIC > or nomic like in NO-MIC-rophone? > > in other words does tha accent fall on the o or on th i ? > and is it a one or two syllable word? > -- > Antonio > > > _________________________________________________________ > > Do You Yahoo!? > > Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com > > > > >
