BeeDee has submitted a new proposal, p1956. --------------------------------- Proposal 1956/0: The Long Arm of the Law A Standard Proposal by BeeDee Last modified on nweek 74, nday 1 Create the following Rule: {{ __Laws__ A. Laws Laws are Game Documents. A Law consists of one or more of the following: * Game Actions which players meeting a given set of conditions must take in a specified time interval - these are known as Imperatives * Game Actions which players meeting a given set of conditions must not take - these are known as Restrictions. A Law must also have one or more Penalties, which may be any of the following: * Jail Time * Fines A Law, finally, must have a Name. If a player fails to comply with an Imperative or Restriction, the player is said to be in Violation of the Law which gave the Imperative or Restriction. Any player, hereafter referred to as the Prosecutor, may Arrest another Player, hereafter referred to as the Bad Guy, who is Violating a Law. This gains the Prosecutor one unit of Temporary Glory. If a Bad Guy is Arrested, and it has been less than one nweek since the Bad Guy began Violating the Law, or less than the one nweek since the last time e was Arrested for this Violation, the Penalties laid out in the Law are applied to em. If a Bad Guy is Arrested, and is has been more than one nweek since e began Violating the Law, and more then one nweek since the last time e was Arrested for this Violation, if ever, e is given a Slap on the Wrist, which causes em to lose one point of Permanent Honor, if e has any. A Bad Guy cannot be Arrested for the same Violation twice in one Checking Period. B. Fines A Fine is a Penalty which may be imposed by a Law. A Fine removes some quantity of any of the following from a Player's possession: * Renown * A Game Object which that player holds (unless explicitly stated otherwise elsewhere in the rules) * Points * Research Points If a Player does not have enough of the quantity indicated, and the quantity is a type of Permanent Renown, and the player has Temporary Renown in the same category, e loses all Temporary Renown in that category. Otherwise, e receives one nweek of Jail Time. C. Jail Time Jail Time is a Penalty which may be imposed by a Law. Jail Time causes a player to gain the attribute In Jail for a specified amount of time. In Jail may also be referred to as Behind Bars. When a player is In Jail, e may not take any Game Actions, unless explicitly stated otherwise by the rules. Additionally, e votes Abstain on all proposals, if the end of the voting occurs while e is Behind Bars. A player In Jail may take the following actions: * Forfeiting * Declaring a State of Emergency * Ceasing to Declare a State of Emergency * Performing actions related to a Ministerial position. The presence of the above list does not preclude other rules permitting a player who is In Jail to perform some specific Game Action or Game Actions. A player who has been In Jail at any time in the current or previous Checking Period is not in Violation of a Law for the sole reason of failing to comply with an Imperative. }} Create the following law: {{ __HTML act of 2004__ Restriction: No player may post HTML to a Public Forums. Penalty: A Fine of one point of Permanent Wisdom. }} [[ Laws are a useful idea, but the existing prop is not very helpful in making an extensible set of laws. This should make a better frame for future props ]] --------------------------------- This Message was sent automatically by the Wiki.
