[Spoon-business] The Return of Pooker

[[I've been meaning to do this forever... finally got around to it after Joel's post prompting me to look at the old A Nomic ruleset.]]

Uuupooon theee staaartt offfff theeee neeextuh eeenwweeeeek, Iii prooopoose theeee foooooolowiiiing:
{{__The Return of Pooker__

Create the followin Rule:
{{__Cards__{Cards}
A. Definition
There may exist objects in the game named Cards. Cards are not grid objects, but may be possessed by players, and only players, or by nothing. [[They would make for interesting Grid objects, but I'd like these to be immune to dropping due to removal from the Grid and besides, I imagine it more as a game played calmly around a table.]] All Cards have three attributes: Suit, Rank, and Back.

The possible Suits are Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades.
The possible Ranks are Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King.
The possible Backs are Red, Blue, Fish, or Corporate.

A Pack of Cards is a set of 52 Cards which all have the same Back. The 52 Cards represent every possible combination of Suit and Rank.
The packs are:
The Red Pack - The Backs of these cards are primarily Red. They are decorated with the traditional card design featuring the twisty lines surrounding circles which appear to contain cherubs on pogo sticks. The Blue Pack - The Backs of these cards are primarily Blue. Other than the color, they are decorated the same way as the Red Pack. The Fish Pack - The Backs of these cards contain colorful drawings of tropical fish. The Corporate Pack - The Backs of these cards contain a message urging you to fly the friendly skies with United. [[It was intended in A Nomic that there be multiple games that use cards each using a different set of decks. I have the same setup here.]]

The collection of cards in the possession of a player may be referred to as eir Hand.

B. Private Hands
All information about all cards is private, and should not be made available publicly or to any entity except as specifically stated by the rules. The Dealer must know all the information about all cards. Each player must know the number and attributes of cards in eir possession.

C. Dealing
The Dealer may be called upon by the rules to Deal a card to a player, and specific qualifications (such as from a certain Pack) may be specified for the card. If there are any cards that are not possessed and that match the qualifications (if any), a random one of those cards is Dealt to that Player, if that Player is not the Dealer, transferring that card to that Player's possession. In additon, any Player other than the Dealer may state anything about cards that e wishes to, as regulated by the ruleset.

D. Trading
Players other than the Dealer may Trade cards with another player. To do so, each player must publicly state that they are conducting a Trade, and pay one point to the Dealer. [[You'll notice that there's no other way for the Dealer to get Points from this game. For real this time!]] In addition, they must each, privately or publicly, inform the Dealer of the cards, including specifics of attributes, that e wishes to give to the other player, and receive from the other player. The amount of cards e wishes to give and receive must be equal. Upon the players performing the above actions, and if each player's list of cards e is giving is equal to the list of cards the other player is receiving, and all the cards that both players wish to give are in their possession at the time, the cards listed by the players are transferred to the other player's possession. [[Originally, only Pooker cards, those that are Red or Blue, could be traded. It could be changed back easily.]]

}}
Add to Rule 625, __Ministers__, the following section:
{{
C.10 The Ministry of Cards

There exists a Ministry of Statkeeping. The Minister of Cards may be referred to as the Dealer.

The Minister of Statkeeping has the power and responsibility to do all the following:
Deal cards to players as specified by the rules.
Keep track of who, if anyone, possesses each of the cards.
Once per nweek, report the number of cards each player received, whether through trading or dealing, since the last time e made such a report, and the Back of each of those cards.

If there is no Dealer, then all cards are removed from the possession of all players. The Admin does not become Dealer if there if no player holds the office. [[New dealer, new game]]
}}

Create the following rule:
{{__Pooker__
A. Definition
Pooker is a game played with Nomic Cards. The object of the game is to exchange Cards with other Players so that you have the best Poker Hand or combination of Poker Hands, and use that combination to gain points. Pooker is played with the Red and Blue Packs of cards.

B. Showdown.
At any time, any player may Reveal any number of the cards in eir Hand, arranging them in a single Pooker Hand. Those cards are then removed from eir possession, and e gets points equal to the Score associated with the Pooker hand in this rule.

C. Pooker Hands
A Pooker Hand is a set of one to five cards that have a Red or Blue Back.

Five of a Kind, Score 20 - five cards of the same Rank.

Royal Flush, Score 20 - five cards with the Ranks Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10, and those cards are all of the same Suit.

Straight Flush, Score 18 - five cards with consecutive Ranks which are all of the same Suit.

Four of a Kind, Score 16 - four cards of the same Rank.

Full House, Score 14 - three cards of one Rank and two cards of another.

Flush, Score 12 - five cards of the same Suit.

Straight, Score 11 - five cards with consecutive Ranks (such as 7-8-9-10-Jack).

Three of a Kind, Score 5 - three cards of the same Rank.

Two Pair, Score 3 - two cards of one Rank and two cards of another Rank, it is Two Pair.

Pair, Score 1 - two PCards of the same Rank.
}}

Call an election for the Dealer, and nominate Rob and Orc in a Spacesuit for that Ministry. [[I dunno if Rob wants it, but he did it before.]]

Transfer the Red Ace of Spades to Rob's possesion.
