[Spoon-business] CFI 1164 Judgment

(Apologies for the lateness of this ruling. I must not have taken this CFI seriously when I saw it the first time. Imagine that.)

CFI 1164:

Statement: The player who joined this game under the name 'Wonko' did not change eir name to 'Yoda'.

Defendant: Wonko

Analysis:
Rule 1146, at the time at which the player who joined this game as Wonko (henceforth reffered to as Wonko), stated that there existed a Gremlin called Yoda. Although the creation of Yoda was prevented by the Immunity Idol (whose rule number escapes me at the moment), the name 'Yoda' was still used as a uniquely identifying name, and thus Wonko's action of changing eir name to 'Yoda' was illegal under rule two, which states that all entities must have uniquely identifying names.

Judgment:

Without going back through the email, I only have the analysis to go by, and from that I infer the following sequence of events:

1. The player who joined the game as Wonko introduced a proposal to create Rule 1146, which passed in voting.

2. The Administrator ruled the gremlin cited in Rule 1146, to be named Yoda, could not be created because of a conflict with another rule.

3. The player who joined the game as Wonko attempted to change eir name to Yoda.

On the condition that the above sequence of events is correct, I must rule this CFI to be FALSE, and declare that the player who joined the game as Wonko is now, in fact, named Yoda. This is based on the fact that, while two entities are not allowed to have the same name, there was no entity in existence named Yoda at the time the player who joined the game as Wonko performed the name change. The rule that said there was such an entity was in conflict with the Immunity Idol rule, and therefore did not have its stated effect.

Be advised that, while there may have been some question as to the existence of the Jedi Gremlin prior to this current nweek, the Jedi Gremlin should be in existence at this time, since, thanks to the current version of Rule 33, Rule 1146 takes priority over Rule 2. Therefore there is a player named Yoda, and a gremlin that can be addressed as Yoda.

Should Rule 33 be changed to prioritize lower numbers over higher ones, I would see three possibilities:

1. The Jedi Gremlin would cease to exist, since Rule 2 would take priority over Rule 1146, and the player named Yoda came before the gremlin.

2. The Jedi Gremlin would exist, but that part of Rule 1146 that says it is also known as Yoda would be in conflict, and thus have no effect.

3. The player who joined the game as Wonko would have the dual status of being a player named Yoda and a Gremlin also known as Yoda.

I suspect #2 would be the most reasonable possibility, though I personally envision massive entertainment value in #3.

I have said.
