I have found that improving one's build process is almost always a win. 
The reason is psychological: remove a barrier to development (bugs, build 
time, complexity, manual steps, you name it) and you increase your 
motivation to do development.

Far, far, far, far more of my time is spent not developing than 
developing. Since I tend to think of myself as a pretty decent programmer, 
with improvements in my ability subject to the law of diminishing returns, 
increasing my motivation to program is the best way to increase my 
productivity.
