[HS] Lesson 11: Pewits

No, I haven't forgotten all of you guys. :) Heraldry School had to
unfortunately slip by the way for a bit as I finished up real
school, but now that summer has started I hope to have a bit more
time.

But just so that you don't feel neglected, I thought I'd introduce
you to my new favorite heraldic word: Pewit.

A pewit, according to Merriam-Webster's online (www.m-w.com) is
more properly a peewit, "any of several birds". They appear, in
the context of a late-16th century standard, to be small birds with
little tufted crests. The standard belongs to Sir Robert Morton,
and it is delightfully described as "sprinkled with pewits". You
can see these charming creatures here:

This is p. 68 of Howard de Walden, Thomas Evelyn Scott-Ellis, Baron,
b. 1880, ed. _Banners, standards, and badges, from a Tudor manuscript
in the College of Arms_, with an introduction by Lord Howard de Walden.
([London] The De Walden Library, 1904.)

I hereby vow to pay half the submissions fee if any of you can convince
a submitter to design and submit arms that are sprinkled with pewits. :)
