First draft suggestion:


Nomic is a game invented by Peter Suber that starts with little more than rules describing how to change the rules. The Christmas Game is a game of nomic that is played on the Internet.  This is the mailing list that helps the players communicate with each other.  Ta daa!


Or something like that :)  Also, whoever controls the list might want to set it so that the "Reply To" header points you back to the list itself, not the person who emailed the list.

What do you think we should say in the introductory text on the mailing
list's page (currently there is nothing there)?
It would be nice if even those of you who have nothing to say respond to
this, just so we'll know that our list works.

(Aargh, I just noticed that I never caused my gamestate page to reflect
that Robert owned (2, 3)!  That's taken care of now... sorry for the
inaccuracy.)
