[ALACPP] Meeting notes |
So, some notes on the meeting. We started late, as traffic was bad, and I wanted to give everyone a chance to make it. I had a very low number of RSVP's, but we missed even one of the RSVP's (Josh, I hope you didn't somehow get locked out). We talked about the basics of BerkeleyDB, what it was good for, what it was not so good for. We looked at some trivial examples of how to use it, so that people could get a feel for the API. We also talked about some of the various optimizations that can be done with BerkeleyDB, in particular hashtable vs. btree and bulk loading with cursors. We also talked about some of the gotcha's in the API's, in particular the rules about memory management and constness with regards to DBT's. Afterwards, we went to the Pasadena Brewing Company, and discovered that Hefeweizen with a hint of banana is actually good, as is the PBC's stuffed cheese burger. We also talked about teaching librarians about technology & critical thinking, the merits of US education with regards to math & science, which inevitably lead to the merits of US education with regards to history. ;-) I think the main disappointment from the evening was the low turnout. Someone mentioned that they didn't get the announcements until too late. The original announcement went out a month prior to the meeting, so obviously the word is really not getting out to folks. Then again, sounds like it was only one person, so maybe the topic was just not of much interest. -- Christopher Smith <x@xxxxxxxx> _______________________________________________ alacpp mailing list alacpp@xxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.ellipsis.cx/mailman/listinfo/alacpp
