I don't know that much about emacs. But vi has modes, so that all the a-z
keys do something useful for editing when you're in editing mode, unlike
in emacs, where at least one, and sometimes multiple, modifier keys are
required to perform editing commands.

Both of them can do anything, but vi's interface is much better.
I don't like having to type lots of control keys.
