for each occurrence of a forward slash followed by an asterisk, remove
that forward slash and asterisk and any text following it up to and
including one asterisk forward slash pair.
for each occurrence of a double left square bracket, remove that
double square bracket and any text following it up to and including
one double right suqare bracket.
