spoon-business: Split Props

{{ _Cut on the Dotted Line_

{{ _Split Props_

A Split Prop is a prop. that seeks to Split a prop. in the same nweek (the Target Prop) into two or more pieces (Shards) that appear in the next nweek as separate props. Shards of a Target Prop have the same owner as the Target Prop. The Target Prop must have a smaller prop. number than the Split Prop. A Split Prop must declare itself to be a Split Prop in its text, and cannot take any action other than the Split.

A Split Prop must use all the text of the Target Prop (not counting comments), with nothing left out. The same section of text from the Target Prop cannot be used in more than one Shard. If the Target Prop is altered, the Split Prop must be altered to match before voting begins, or else it is removed from the ballot.

A Split is performed if the ballot result of the Target Prop is "Shelved" and the ballot result of the Split Prop is "Passed". If more than one Split Prop uses the same Target Prop, the first such Split Prop that passes is used, and the rest have no effect. The Shelved Target Prop is only carried into the next nweek if all Split Props using it fail.

If a Split is performed, each Shard becomes a prop. in the next nweek. The new props each get the same name as the Target Prop, with "(n)" added, where n is the number of the Shard in the Split Prop. Each prop. also gets an attrib. called Shard Num, which is set to the number of Shards in the Split Prop (Split Count).

If a Shard is the Target Prop of a new Split Prop, the new Shards' Shard Num will be the old Shard Num times the new Split Count.

A Shard counts as (1/Shard Num) props against its owner's bandwidth limit. A Shard prop gains or costs its owner (1/Shard Num) times the normal amount to be gained or lost by a prop., rounded up.

A Shard can be 100% changed, like any other prop.; this does not change the bandwidth burden, the number of points it gains or loses, or the Shard Num.

Split Props don't count toward Bandwidth limits, and don't cause gains or losses of points to their owners. Split Props take precedence [[quote from r33]] over Rule 19.

}}

Give this rule a chutzpah of 3.

If this prop. passes, give half the points it earns to Bean. [[ Originator of the idea.]]

}}

[[ What this does is let other players find merit in pieces of a proposal, and seperate out those pieces for consideration on their own merits in the next nweek; it also lets the owner of a massive proposal cover eir butt by offering to present it in pieces if people decide they can't swallow the whole thing at once. ]]
